State officials serving as part of Iowa*sstate government will appear before Boys Staters and explain their respectiveduties.

WHAT OFFICE CAN I RUN FOR?

At Iowa American Legion Boys State, you can run for any one of the manyelected public offices found in the state of Iowa, except township or villageoffices- The Iowa Boys State election process consists of a city and countycaucus, a county and state convention and the general election. Voting in thegeneral election is by computerized voting machines. Boys staters who are not.elected to an office must seek an appointive office.

The elective offices that you can run for at Iowa Boys State are:

• City: Mayor, Treasurer and Councilman.
• County: Treasurer, Sheriff, Recorder, Auditor , Board of Supervisors and Attorney
• State: Representative, Senator, Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State,  Attorney General, Auditor, and Treasurer.

Boys Staterswho are not elected to an office must seek an appointive office. If you are notelected, you can apply to the Governor*soffice, County offices or City offices.   Everyone holds at least one elective or appointive office.Listed below are the Court appointed positions.
