Travel Plans?
alberghi a NizzaA Message from Ray Mitchell
Has air service improved with the merging of Air Canada and Canadian Airlines? Are airline points redeemable? Our clients are asking these and other questions about air travel service with greater frequency. We may soon have the right answers!
You may be aware that the Ontario Minister of Corporate Affairs, along with a planeload of travelers on a recent Caribbean trip, was delayed for many hours on the ground. While his frustration was no greater than that of his fellow passengers, the Minister was in a position to convene a task force to review service being provided by airlines. The task force came up with about two dozen recommendations. Among them was the definite need for a centralized reporting system so passengers' complaints can be accumulated and broadcast.
You may also have seen a recent US study that determined travel service to customers has deteriorate significantly. This has reinforced demands in the United States for a Passengers' Bill of Rights. Is this something we could use in Canada? Passenger outrage is increasing, possibly even faster than airfares and related taxes.
If you feel that you have received less than adequate service from an airline make your member of parliament aware of the circumstances. The Minister of Transport has indicated interest in passenger service, particularly with the virtual monopoly in Canada. Let him know if you are dissatisfied. In this instance silence is not golden.
